About Venture Global

Venture Global takes natural gas from American wells, chills it into a liquid called LNG, and ships it to customers in Europe and Asia. Think of it as a giant gas export terminal on the Louisiana coast that sends out a cargo ship almost every day. It has exported more than 1,000 cargos since its first one in 2022.

The case for and against

Both sides of the story, in plain English.

Bull case
  • Export Machine

Venture Global exported 127 cargos in the second quarter alone, up 43% from a year ago. Revenue grew 48% to 4.6 billion dollars and profit more than tripled to 1.3 billion dollars, with 91% of this year's cargos already sold.

  • Built To Last

Long-term contracts with giants like Shell and BP lock in about 137 billion dollars of future revenue. The company is refinancing debt at lower rates, saving over 100 million dollars a year, and more than doubled its dividend.

Bear case
  • Mountain Of Debt

Building new plants runs on borrowed money, with about 42.8 billion dollars of debt against 3.15 billion dollars of cash. The company keeps burning cash until spending slows around 2028, so delays at the new plants would hurt.

  • Legal And Price Risk

A legal fight with BP is still unresolved and could cost billions. Some of today's big profits also come from selling extra gas at high spot prices, which can drop if global tensions ease.
