About Victoria's Secret

Victoria's Secret sells bras, lingerie, sleepwear and beauty products through about 1,430 stores in roughly 70 countries, plus its websites and the PINK and Adore Me brands. For years it was a household name losing its grip on shoppers. It has spent the last few years rebuilding that relationship, and the numbers are finally cooperating.

The case for and against

Both sides of the story, in plain English.

Bull case
  • Full Price Wins

Net sales rose 10 percent to 1.611 billion dollars last quarter, and sales at stores the company already had climbed 9 percent. That means real people buying more, not just new stores padding the total. Operating income jumped to 257 million dollars from 41 million a year ago as shoppers paid full price instead of waiting for discounts.

  • Raising The Bar

Management lifted its full year outlook to between 7.10 and 7.18 billion dollars in sales, with adjusted operating profit of 560 to 590 million dollars versus 403 million last year. International sales grew 20 percent to 273 million dollars, and the company is now spending more on marketing because what it is doing is working.

Bear case
  • Skinny Margins

Net margins are only about 3 percent, so a small dip in shopping hits profits hard. The company expects a much leaner third quarter, with operating income of just 10 to 20 million dollars on roughly 1.6 billion dollars of sales. This is also a fashion brand, and staying popular is never guaranteed.

  • Tariff Wildcard

That headline 257 million dollar profit included more than 140 million dollars of one time tariff refunds. Strip those out and the real number was 124 million dollars, still strong but far less dramatic. Trade rules can swing again, and management said outright it is still navigating tariff uncertainty.
