About American Bitcoin
American Bitcoin runs a huge fleet of Bitcoin mining computers and keeps much of the Bitcoin it digs up in a savings pile, like a gold miner that stores its own gold instead of selling it. It is majority owned by Hut 8, which hosts the machines and supplies the power. The Trump family is part of the story, with Eric Trump as Chief Strategy Officer.
The case for and against
Both sides of the story, in plain English.
- Record Bitcoin Pile
In the second quarter of 2026 the company mined 932 Bitcoin, its best quarter ever, and its total holdings grew 14% to about 8,002 Bitcoin. Shares outstanding grew only about 3% in the same stretch, so each share now stands behind about 11% more Bitcoin than three months earlier.
- Cheap To Mine
It costs the company about 36,500 dollars to mine one Bitcoin, well under the roughly 71,900 dollars it earned per coin in the second quarter. Its newest machines use about 13.5 joules per terahash, which puts its fleet among the most power efficient in the industry. Gross margin held near 50%.
- Money Is Tight
The company owes much more in the next year than it has on hand: 136.7 million dollars of short term bills against 25.7 million dollars of current assets. It also carries a 371.7 million dollar bill for mining machines, with about 3,090 Bitcoin pledged to cover it. Cash from operations was negative 63.8 million dollars in the first half of 2026, so growth leans on selling new shares.
- Losses And Shrinking Stock
The company lost 57.2 million dollars in the second quarter and net margins are about negative 72%. The stock did a 1 for 15 reverse split in July 2026 to stay listed on Nasdaq and is down roughly 77% this year. It rises and falls with the Bitcoin price and has political headlines attached.
