About Adobe
Adobe makes the software behind most of the images, videos, PDFs and ads you see online, including Photoshop, Premiere and Acrobat. Think of it as the toolbox almost every designer, marketer and office worker already reaches for. Customers pay a subscription, so the money comes in every month, and the company now counts more than one billion monthly users.
The case for and against
Both sides of the story, in plain English.
- Cash Machine
Adobe booked a record 6.76 billion dollars of revenue last quarter, up 13% from a year ago, and turned that into 2.52 billion dollars of operating cash flow in just three months. Net margins sit near 28%, and the company bought back about 9.5 million of its own shares in the quarter.
- One Billion Users
Adobe passed one billion monthly active users and says revenue from its new AI-first products grew more than 150% in a year. Recurring revenue now runs at 27.5 billion dollars a year, and management raised its full-year targets, now pointing to about 24.45 to 24.50 dollars of adjusted earnings per share, which makes the stock cheap at roughly 10 times that.
- Free Tools Risk
A lot of those one billion users pay nothing, and Adobe is pushing free plans hard to win them. It is not yet clear how many will ever upgrade, and the total value of contracted future revenue dipped slightly last quarter, from 22.27 to 22.16 billion dollars.
- Rivals And Change
Canva and a wave of AI image and video tools are competing for the same creative customers. Adobe is also in a leadership handoff with a new CEO and an interim finance chief, and it spent about 1.87 billion dollars in cash on its Semrush deal, so execution matters over the next year.
