About Adeia
Adeia owns thousands of patents on the technology inside smart TVs, streaming apps, phones and computer chips, and charges companies like Charter, TCL and AMD a fee to use them. Think of it as a landlord for ideas: once an invention is patented, each new license costs almost nothing to add. Its newest growth area is the chip stacking and cooling technology behind AI data centers.
The case for and against
Both sides of the story, in plain English.
- Big Name Deals
Adeia signed 8 license deals this quarter, including multi year renewals with Charter, the largest TV and internet provider in America, and TV maker TCL. It also added 4 new customers, like sports gear seller Fanatics, and revenue for the first nine months of 2026 reached 281 million dollars, up about 8% from last year.
- AI Chip Runway
Management still expects Adeia to reach 600 million dollars in yearly revenue over the long run, well above the 375 to 415 million dollars expected this year. New CEO Dipti Vachani brings nearly 30 years of chip industry experience, a strong fit for Adeia's patents on stacking and cooling the chips inside AI data centers.
- Slipping Deals
Revenue fell to 80.2 million dollars, down from 96.1 million last quarter and 87.3 million a year ago, and profit shrank to just 2.3 million dollars. Management also cut its 2026 revenue forecast to 375 to 415 million dollars, warning that a few big deals could slip into next year.
- Debt Drag
Adeia still owes 386.5 million dollars on its loan, roughly three times the 127.7 million dollars it has in cash, and expects 32 to 34 million dollars in interest costs this year. Cash from operations was only 5.1 million dollars this quarter, so there is less cushion when deals arrive late.
