About ACM Research

ACM Research builds the machines that chip factories use to clean silicon wafers, plate copper wiring onto them, and package chips together. Think of it as selling the specialized mops and wiring tools to the factories that make AI and memory chips. Most of its customers are in China, but it is now shipping tools to customers in other countries too.

The case for and against

Both sides of the story, in plain English.

Bull case
  • Packaging Boom

Revenue grew 36 percent last quarter to 293 million dollars, and management raised its full year target to between 1.125 and 1.175 billion dollars. The plating line, which is key to stacking AI chips, grew 168 percent and ACM just shipped its 2,000th plating chamber.

  • Cash Cushion

ACM ended last quarter with about 1.0 billion dollars in net cash. That gives it room to build its new Oregon facility, fund new products, and ride out a slow quarter without needing outside money.

Bear case
  • China Exposure

Most of ACM's sales still come from China, and tighter export rules or trade fights could slow orders quickly. In the first half, one customer alone made up 12.7 percent of revenue, so a single pullback would be felt.

  • Cash Squeeze

Inventory has swollen to 783 million dollars and cash from operations was negative 6 million dollars last quarter. The stock also trades near 37 times forward earnings, so any slip in margins or sales could hit the price hard.
