About Hyperliquid Strategies

Hyperliquid Strategies is a public company that mainly holds one thing: about 29 million tokens of Hyperliquid, a crypto trading platform that runs on its own blockchain. Think of it as a vault with a stock ticker, where owning a share gets you a slice of the vault. It also runs a validator, which earns fees for helping keep the network running.

The case for and against

Both sides of the story, in plain English.

Bull case
  • Debt-Free Vault

The company holds about 1.9 billion dollars of Hyperliquid tokens plus 150 million dollars in cash, with zero debt. Total assets were 2.06 billion dollars at the end of June, so there is no lender that could force it to sell tokens in a bad month.

  • Smart Share Math

Management sold new shares at an average of 8 dollars and 70 cents, then bought back about 5.8 million shares at just 4 dollars and 80 cents. Buying back below the value of the vault leaves each remaining share owning more. The validator and staking also brought in 9.5 million dollars last year.

Bear case
  • Mostly One Bet

About 92 percent of the company's assets are a single crypto token. Last year's 305 million dollars of profit came mostly from a 710 million dollar paper gain as the token rose, not from selling a product. If the token falls, profit and the share price can fall with it.

  • Price Can Drift

The share price can drift well away from the value of the vault, in either direction, so the stock can disappoint even when the token holds up. Hyperliquid is also blocked for US traders, and no US approval exists yet. Running costs of 14 million dollars a year are large next to the 12 million dollars of real income.
